How To Become An Oblate

WRITE to the Director.  A person wishing to become an Oblate should visit or write the Director of Oblates at Holy Spirit Monastery.  In the correspondence with the applicant the Director will indicate what the Benedictine Community can offer to the prospective Oblate; the applicant should indicate what he/she hopes for from the community and what she/he can contribute to the service of God and the world.

COME.  Several months after a person attends meetings, one can be received into the Benedictine family as an Oblate Candidate.  The ceremony for the reception of the Oblate will be held at the Monastery chapel.  The time of candidacy gives the person time to study the Rule of St. Benedict and to discover how it can apply to daily life.

MAKE
an Act of Oblation.  A year later, if desired, and with the approval of the religious community, the Oblate may make a commitment to be a faithful witness of Christ and to form one's life according to the principles and ideals of the Gospel.  This commitment also takes place at a special ceremony.  The Act of Oblation is a promise which associates the Oblate with a Benedictine community and commits the Oblate to apply to their lives the characteristic Benedictine values.
